Case study 3: shifting geographies of detention, death and survival
Summary of the case study
Death By Design:
This case study synthesises spatial elements of the zone of cyber-surveillance and oppression, which can be seen as extension and intensifications of the settler state apparatus that maintain tools and policies of militarised cyber-surveillance regimes. The spatial elements presented are: (1) Sea with a focus on Mediterranean sea, (2) Desert, with a focus on Libya and the refugees detention centres there; (3) Air which highlights aspects of European Boarder Surveillances system, Eurosur, ‘smart border’ initiatives, drones, External Borders Fund in the context of the current refugee crisis.
